Winter is just around the corner, and with it comes snow, and with snow comes slippery roadways. With snow and
ice covering the roads of the Chopmist Hill Fire District, it is creating a major concern for public safety when fire and
rescue service is more then 15 minutes away in good conditions.
When you put some snow and ice on the roads, you may be waiting 20 to 30 minutes for help to reach you, due to
the closing of the Chopmist Hill Fire Station.
Over the last 59 years, Chopmist Hill has always had personnel standing by when winter weather strikes. The Chopmist
Hill firefighters have spent countless hours during all kinds of bad weather just to make sure that our trucks would make
it to the residents in the Chopmist Hill District as fast and safely as possible to assure that residents get fire or rescue
help immediately.
As the first snow hit the Chopmist Hill area just last week, it was the first snow storm in 59 years that Chopmist
Hill firefighters were on stand-by with no trucks. As Chopmist Hill firefighters, we can use the station, but not the trucks.
So, what is it going to take for the residents of Scituate to realize that your safety is being gambled with? It's
time for the residents of Scituate to make a stand. As Scituate residents, you voted for the Chopmist Hill Fire Department,
and it is the residents of Scituate that voted (at a Town Meeting) April 7 to fund the Chopmist Hill Fire Department for the
2009 financial year. So where is the money going?
The Chopmist Hill Fire Department was supposed to collect a check from the town in October. No money was ever collected.
So where are your tax-dollars being spent? It's your money and you deserve to know how it is being spent.
